Introduction

Uttarakhand is often called the Land of the Gods, and in local belief, it is known as the Gateway to Heaven. Many people believe that the divine presence is strong here, and that prayers offered in this region are heard more easily.

Among the most sacred spiritual sites in the Kumaon region is Kainchi Dham Ashram, a peaceful temple nestled in the heart of the Kumaon hills.

History

Neem karoli ashram is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and was established in the 1960s by the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba (Lakshmi Narayan Sharma). Devotees believe him to be an incarnation of Lord Hanuman, and many visitors claim to feel a powerful spiritual energy within the ashram.

Located at an altitude of around 1,400 metres above sea level, the ashram stands on the Nainital–Almora road, surrounded by dense forests, serene mountains and a gently flowing river. The unique scissor-like shape formed by two crossing hills gave the place its name, as ‘Kainchi’ means scissors in Hindi.

The ashram gained international attention in 1973 when Steve Jobs, former CEO of Apple, visited and stayed here in search of spiritual clarity. Later, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, also visited the ashram, adding to its global recognition.
