The hill town of Uttarakhand- Ranikhet, whose name translates to “Queen’s Land”, is a year-round destination for nature lovers. It beautifully captures the essence of the majestic Himalayas. Situated at an altitude of 1,829 metres above sea level, Ranikhet lies in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. In this article, We will be sharing some of our favourite places to visit in Ranikhet.

1. Binsar Mahadev Temple

Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Binsar Mahadev Temple is a serene and spiritually enriching destination near Ranikhet. Located around 18 km from Ranikhet Market, the temple is surrounded by dense forests, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. The scenic approach, lined with towering trees, makes the journey as memorable as the destination itself. We had never experienced such a tranquil and picturesque path before.

2. Haidakhan Temple

Temple

Haidakhan Temple is located approximately 3.7 km from Ranikhet Market and is primarily known as a centre for meditation and spiritual experience.practice. During my journey through the Kumaon and Garhwal regions, We discovered that many places were established specifically for meditation, and Haidakhan Temple is a perfect example. One of the most striking features of this site is the uninterrupted view of the Himalayas. On a clear day, several majestic peaks are visible, creating a truly mesmerising

3. Kumaon Regiment Museum

Ranikhet holds great historical significance as it serves as the headquarters of the Kumaon Regiment. The Kumaon Regiment Centre was established here in May 1948. The regiment was honoured with India’s first Vir Chakra, while the first Param Vir Chakra was awarded to Major Somnath Sharma.

Ranikhet is also home to the headquarters of the Naga Regiment, an infantry unit of the Indian Army. The first battalion of the Naga Regiment was raised in 1970 in Ranikhet, making it one of the newer regiments of the Indian Army, with most recruits coming from Nagaland in North-East India.

The Kumaon Regiment Museum is open to visitors and has a nominal entry fee, which is well worth it. This was my first visit to an army museum, and We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Even with limited prior knowledge of military history, the detailed displays and explanations helped me gain a much better understanding.

4. Golf Ground

The Ranikhet Golf Ground is one of the most popular attractions in the town and is believed to be closely associated with the origin of Ranikhet’s name. Situated at an altitude of 6,132 feet, it is recognised as one of the highest golf courses in Asia. Surrounded by lush green forests and the Kumaon Mountains, the golf course is located around 5–6 km from Ranikhet Market. It is meticulously maintained by the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, adding to its charm and pristine condition.

This picturesque hill station is famous for its 300 km-wide panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul and Panchachuli. Mahatma Gandhi famously referred to Kausani as the “Switzerland of India”. The town enjoys a pleasant climate, with mild summers and distinctly cool winters.

6. Jhula Devi Mandir

As we began our journey back home, we made a final stop at Jhula Devi Mandir, located close to Ranikhet Market. After offering our prayers, we continued towards Chaubatiya and then proceeded to Bhimtal, bringing our memorable trip to an end.
